Bedside Tables with Shelves

Bedside tables with shelves give books, a basket or familiar night-time objects a place below the lamp. Open storage can be useful when you want to see and pick up an item directly, without opening a drawer in a tight gap. The shelf still needs to sit at a height you can comfortably reach.

Decide what belongs on display before choosing the furniture. One frequently used book and a crowded pile make very different demands. A shelf can keep the top clearer, but it does not hide small loose items unless you add suitable separate storage. Use this page to compare open bedside layouts, or consider bedside tables with drawers when concealed storage is your priority.

Make the shelf opening fit the object

Measure the items you intend to store, including a basket’s handles or the height of upright books. Then compare the usable opening above the shelf. A generous outer cabinet height does not guarantee a tall opening, particularly when a drawer or decorative rail sits above it.

Notice whether the shelf is open on several sides. Side panels can stop books sliding sideways; an open edge may need a separate bookend. Do not assume either arrangement from a styled image. Check any stated shelf load and the individual item’s intended use. If you need mixed storage rather than one open level, the bedside tables with storage collection offers a wider way to assess the options.

Reach below without reaching around the bed

A low shelf may look neat from the doorway but require bending from a sitting position. Think about whether you use it before settling into bed or while lying down. Reserve the easiest position for the thing you reach for most often and place occasional items farther below.

The bed frame can obstruct a side opening, and hanging bedding can conceal the shelf face. Check the table beside the actual bed rather than in an isolated plan. A deep shelf can make rear objects difficult to retrieve, so avoid treating every part of its depth as equally convenient. Compare surface height and bedside reach in the broader bedside tables guide before deciding on the open-storage format.

Choose what stays visible overnight

An open shelf becomes part of the bedroom’s appearance. A small group of books or a single basket can feel settled; many chargers and loose packets may leave the room looking cluttered even when the top is clear. Decide which belongings deserve visible space and which need another home.

Allow access for cleaning around the shelf and underneath the base. Dust may gather on stored objects as well as on the furniture, so a shelf works best when its contents are easy to lift out. Use protective bases where the product’s care guidance calls for them, and check the finish instructions before placing damp or hot objects anywhere on the table.

Frequently Asked Questions

If the usable opening accommodates it and the shelf’s guidance permits the load. Include the basket’s handles and leave enough room to pull it out. A basket shown in a photograph should not be assumed to be included.

They avoid the need for an opening drawer, but access still depends on height, depth and the bed beside them. A low or partly hidden shelf can be inconvenient from bed. Compare how you will actually use the stored objects.

Check the opening height and whether the shelf has sides or a back. Upright books may need support on an open edge. A short stack can work differently, but its footprint and weight still need to suit the shelf.

It can keep books off the top, but everything remains visible. Use it for a small number of purposeful items and consider a fitting basket for loose belongings. Choose concealed storage if visual clutter is the main problem.
