For those looking to extend its lifespan, here are some extra tips for the primary materials used.

Timber Care

Timber is a natural material. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, radiators, or other heat sources will inevitably affect its appearance. The most common effects include timber turning yellowish under sunlight or paint losing its colour. While this typically doesn’t cause structural damage, it can result in noticeable changes in colour and surface finish, particularly on solid timber and painted surfaces.

Spills should be wiped immediately with a clean, damp cloth, followed by a dry cloth. Abrasive cleaners should be avoided.

Genuine Leather Care

General Care Treatment

DO

  • Protect from direct sunlight, direct heat and weather exposure.
  • Remove all liquid and food spills immediately by blotting, not rubbing.
  • Clean contact areas affected by perspiration and body oils regularly.
  • Regularly dust with a clean, dry, soft cloth.
  • Use leather conditioner periodically to maintain softness and prevent drying or cracking.

DO NOT

  • Do not expose to prolonged direct sunlight or heat sources.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents or abrasive cleaners.
  • Do not allow spills to sit or soak into the leather.
  • Do not use baby wipes, alcohol-based wipes or household cleaners.

Overall Cleaning

  • Dust before cleaning.
  • Use a soft cloth lightly dampened with a leather-specific cleaner.
  • Clean gently using circular motions without excessive pressure.
  • Follow up with a clean, dry cloth to remove any residue.
  • Condition leather after cleaning, using products suitable for genuine leather and following the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Do not dry clean or machine wash.
  • Do not use steam cleaners or hot water extraction machines.
  • Do not over-wet the leather.
  • Do not use detergents not designed for leather.

Spot Cleaning

  • Treat spills and stains as soon as possible.
  • Test any cleaning product on an inconspicuous area first.

  • Do not rub vigorously, as this may damage the surface.
  • Do not attempt to remove stubborn stains with harsh products.
  • Do not apply conditioner directly to stained areas before cleaning.
