The Hans Wegner Peacock Chair (PP550) first appeared in 1947. Danish designer Hans Wegner created this iconic piece during the rise of Danish modern design. His work helped shape the philosophy of “Organic Functionality,” which combined craftsmanship, comfort and simple form.
Wegner first presented the chair at the Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen. Fellow designer Finn Juhl later gave it the name “Peacock Chair.” He drew inspiration from the fan-shaped backrest, which resembles a peacock’s plumage. Since then, the chair has become one of the most recognisable pieces of Danish furniture.
The chair features a distinctive curved backrest and a woven seat. Together they create both comfort and visual balance. As a result, the design works well in many interiors, including living rooms, studies and hallways.
